JLPT N5 · Requests and invitations

〜ましょう

Let's do it together

Meaning

Politely proposes a shared action or gently encourages a specific course of action.

Formation

  1. Remove ます and add ましょう: 食べます → 食べましょう.
  2. する → しましょう; 来る → 来ましょう(きましょう).

When to use it

Shared action
The speaker includes themselves and suggests doing something together.
Gentle prompt
Moves everyone to the next step: let's start, look, or go.

Example

一緒いっしょに昼ご飯ひるごはんを食べたべましょう

Let's eat lunch together.

Important notes

  • It is more decisive than 〜ませんか because the action is already presented as a plan.

Common mistakes

  • Do not add ましょう to the te-form; use the ます-stem.
